Drainage Area 1
Drainage Area 1
Drainage Area 1 at the end of the street is probably the most maintenance of all of our responsibilities. Everytime it rains, dirt, debris, litter, etc. all run down the slope of the road, into the drain on right hand side, through culvert, and into the erosion control area. Several years ago New Castle County added the rocks in an attempt to slow the outfall rate but that, inturn, deposited everything right there.
The Maintenance Corp must keep this area clear of weeds, debris, etc. so that rainwater has a path down the hill toward the creek. When the area fills with sediment, it will not drain and the standing water creates a mosquito pit. This is very high on the NCC inspector’s list.
The To Do List:
Pulling weeds
Removing sticks
Removing excess sediment
Checking the culvert for blockages
This is likely the most labor intensive of all of the jobs as it requires the most volunteered time. The job should be split among multiple people over multiple weekends.
Gloves and small digging / gardening tools preferred.
Topsoil is often needed to replace pack in the basin.
